Bathurst Relay For Life

Nathan Puxty April 28, 2016

Over 500 participants all came together at the Saints' College for the fight against Cancer this March. Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Councils' research, prevention and support services.

Relay For Life began in the USA in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, wanted to raise awareness of cancer and boost the income of his local cancer charity. He spent a grueling twenty-four hours circulating a track in Washington and raised over US$27,000, and showed that one person can make a difference.  It is now celebrated by more than 4 million people in over 20 countries.

Photonation spent both days covering the event taking images of the events and attendees. We also took video and made a video of the day. Utilising the high quality full frame DSLR and a GoPro Hero we were able to include a timelapse of the teams walking.

Our photos featured in the Bathurst Western Advocate Article and Bathurst Relay for Life Facebook Page.

How Sports Photography Boosts Your Child’s Self-Esteem

Nathan Puxty April 2, 2016

Psychologists and parenting experts are saying what parents have known all along, that photography plays an important role in promoting a child's healthy self-esteem.  It’s a role that Photonation is proud to be a part of.

Psychologists agree that photographs of children at school, at sports events or with family, help them establish a sense of belonging, as well as boosting their confidence and their self esteem.

Photographs that are physically visible every day are visual reminders and proof that a child has a place in life and in relationships with others.

We use photographs as milestones in our lives which creates a sense of belonging at celebrations or family events, and is an important part of family history.

In “The Magic of Encouragement” (Morrow, 1990), child psychotherapist Stephanie Marston suggests placing two photos of a child next to his or her bed. One photograph should show the child happily engaged in a activity such as sports or an event, and the other should show family togetherness. Research has shown that the 30 minute time period just before bed is when children are more receptive and listen and absorb more than any other time.  Put photos of your children being capable and doing something they love next to their beds and these positive images are likely to be the last thing they see before they sleep and the first thing they see when they wake up.

We live in a digital world, but having physical prints around the house is a constant reminder of their achievements, their loves, and goals.

Founder and head photographer, Nathan Puxty, explained, “A lot of our clients who book our photography services say that their students loved the photos and have really improved in their choosen sport or talent, and become more outgoing. Clients have even used our images in framed prizes and awards.  Customers tell us that although their iPhone takes most of the family photos, our images get up close and capture the true spirit of the subject.  They have used the photos for gifts and framed them for the wall where friends and family can see them. A great conversation starter. Our return customers have reported the excitement from students or participants when they hear Photonation is coming to take photos”.

You can book Photonation for you next event or sporting competition for free.  It's a great way to provide professional photos for use in social media and the opportunity for your participants to be able to have access to images of themselves engaging in their passion.

Please see out FAQ and BOOKING pages for more information.
